CLERMONT, FL. – The Wesleyan softball team rallied in a double header showdown on Sunday afternoon as they racked up 12 runs in a 12-2 victory over St. Lawrence University and a tight 2-1 win over Western New England University during Spring Break action from the Legends Way Ballfields.
With
Lizzie Marino '25 and
Waverly Smart '27 already on first and second base,
Molly Lennon '26 opened the action with a homerun smacked out to left field, sending all three home to take an early 3-0 lead at the top of the 1
st inning. Meredith Rose tripled out to left field with two Saints on base to bring the scoring within one run of the Cardinals (5-5 overall).
After
Jordynn Killion '27 doubled out to left center at the top of the 2
nd inning,
Revi Brown '23 advanced her to third with a single to left field and advanced themselves to second on a throw in the middle of the action. Two batters later, Smart singled out to center, allowing both Brown and Killion to advance the Cardinals by another two runs on the scoreboard.
Killion again bounced the score as she sent
Cat Palmer to the plate on a fly ball in left field.
Bella Tassone '24 scored with bases loaded as
Darlene De La Cruz '25 singled after
Hannah Docktor '24 advanced her to third on a sacrificed bunt.
Lennon scored again from third base as the Cardinals had bases loaded with Docktor singling up the middle after Lennon's own single to right field. Both
Isabella Secaira-Cotto '25 and Palmer found their way to home after Killion singled down to right field to bring the Cardinals tally to 10 runs. Docktor advanced home from third on a wild pitch, and Killion followed immediately after with De La Cruz sending the ball out to left field.
Secaira-Cotto (6 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 SO) earned the win, pitching her second complete game and is now 2-1 on the season as she allowed only four hits from the Saints. Lennon, with the only homer, and Killion finished the game with near identical stat lines (2 R, 2 H, 3 RBI). Killion finished with a team leading four assists.
In game 2, the Cardinals finally opened the scoring after four scoreless innings, striking at the bottom of the 5
th with the run coming from Marino singling out to right field and advancing home off a hit by Lennon out to the opposite side of the field.
The Golden Bears tied the game up at a run apiece at the top of the 6
th inning as Alex Ferriouol raced to home as the catcher for the Cardinals errored on a passed ball. Ferriouol singled left prior to the tying run.
Pinch hitting for
Rebecca Cassel-Siskind '26, De La Cruz singled out right before Cassel-Siskind advanced on her own to second as Marino was called out on a bunt hit. In the final play of the game, Smart sent the pitch out left for Cassel-Siskind to score the game-winning run for the Cardinals, ending with a 2-1 victory.
Kelly Baker '26 (7 IP, 1 R, 0 ER, 4 SO), allowing only two hits, earned the 2-1 win as she pitched her second complete game and is now 2-2 on the season.
The Cardinals return to action on Monday, March 18, when they face Carleton at 10 a.m. and Endicott at 12:15 p.m. down in Clermont, Fl.
