MIDDLETOWN, CT. – Advancing to 7-0 on the season, the Wesleyan women's tennis team continued their dominant play in a 8-1 non-conference defeat of No. 21 Brandeis University on Thursday afternoon in their first matchup post Spring Break at Wesleyan's Bacon Field House.
The No. 5 ranked Cardinals opened the afternoon with a win at No. 2 doubles as
Leila Epstein '26 and
Jackie Soloveychik '27 made an example out of Mandy Reyes and Nacy Zhang in a 8-4 victory. The second point of the afternoon went to
Lane Durkin '27 and
Renna Mohsen-Breen '25 at No. 3, coming away with a 8-6 win over Chahana Budhbhatti and Sabrina Loui. The Judges claimed their only point at No. 1 doubles with Bhakti Parwani and Rebecca Suarez defeating
Caitlyn Ferrante '24 and
Sarah Youngberg '26, 8-5.
Epstein picked up the first singles win of the match for the Cardinals, defeating Budhbhatti 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 before Ferrante was declared the winner at No. 1, 6-2, 2-1, as Suarez was forced to retire from the match. In one of the biggest setups of the afternoon, Youngberg at No. 2 came away with a hard fought 6-4, 6-1 victory over Parwani. At No. 5, Lika Bolkvadze took
Lane Durkin to the very end, but Durkin put away the match 7-5, 6-4. A quick win went to Soloveychik at No. 4 with a 6-2, 6-1 defeat of Zhang. The final point of the afternoon went to Mohsen-Breen in the No. 6 spot as she claimed a 6-1, 6-3 defeat of Anastasia Sia.
The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, March 30, when they head to Trinity for a 2 p.m. NESCAC matchup in Hartford, CT.
