MIDDLEBURY, VT. – The Wesleyan softball team fell in NESCAC action on Saturday afternoon as Middlebury College came away with a 8-1 game one win before winning game two with a 7-3 final score.
The Panthers (9-5 overall, 2-0 NESCAC) picked up some early luck in the 3
rd inning after two scoreless opening innings, putting up four runs on the Cardinals (7-11 overall, 1-5 NESCAC). Samantha Hausman and Nina Schroeder scored for the Panthers on a fielders choice advancement and a third base throwing error. McKenna Lont and Cate Viola doubled the score in quick fashion on Megan Fox's single to right center and advanced on the throw.
At the top of the 5th inning,
Bella Tassone '24 put the Cardinals on the scoreboard after advancing to second base on a wild pitch as Bella Secaira-Cotto's '25 pinch runner.
Nicole Celi doubled out to left center field, giving Tassone enough time to round third base and reach home plate.
The Panters doubled the score again in the 5
th inning, Viola and Kristyn Carroll scoring on Fox's home run hit. Kelley Dever reaches home on a double by Schroeder to finished out the game.
Secaira-Cotto pitched four innings (6 H, 7 R, 2 ER, 3 K) before she was relieved by
Revi Brown '23 for an inning (3 H, 1 R).
In game two, the Cardinals took an early two run lead in the 2
nd inning as Kelley Baker '26 doubled out to left field and reached third on a bunt hit by
Rebecca Cassel-Siskind '26.
Waverly Smart '27 sent a pitch down through the left side, both Baker and Cassel-Siskind were able to reach home and take the lead.
Olivia Scholes homered for the Panthers in the 4
th inning before Cece Ziegler scores on a double and ties up the game.

Hannah Docktor '24 ground out, advancing Smart to third base. Smart scores the final run for the Cardinals on a single by
Lizzie Marino '25.
Long scored on a double before Carroll scores on another double by Lont as the batting lineup refreshed in the 6
th inning.
Baker pitched five innings (10 H, 7 R, 5 ER, 1 K) before Brown closed the game, allowing one hit.
The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, April 6, when they host Trinity in a NESCAC double header at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
