BRUNSWICK, Me. – Back on the road for the first time since April 2, the No. 4 ranked Wesleyan women's lacrosse team put on a dominant display, defeating No. 23 Bowdoin 12-7 on Saturday afternoon from Ryan Field. The Cardinals (11-2, 6-2 NESCAC) are winners of six straight while the Polar Bears (8-6, 4-5 NESCAC) lose for just the second time in their last six league games.
The Cardinals were gifted an incredible display of goalkeeping from
Izzy Weintraub '26 as the sophomore made nine saves and allowed just two goals, one of which came with Bowdoin on the player-up, in three quarters of work as she exited with Wesleyan leading 11-2 after three.
Weintraub's play, combined with a pair of big point-producing outings from
Laura Baine '24 and
Dylan Green '26, proved more than enough to land another league win for the Cardinals.
Both goalkeepers made three saves in the first quarter alone in a low-scoring frame that saw the Cardinals score all three goals.
Sam DeLeo '25 scored the first two goals of the game before
Annabel Cincotta '25 scored on the player-up with just 19 seconds left to make it 3-0.
Weintraub made her fourth straight save to start the game, two of which came on free position shot attempts, early in the second quarter before Bowdoin scored their first goal of the game with 10:49 left in the frame.
Answering right back for the Cardinals was
Elle Priesing '26 on a free position shot, kick starting a 5-0 scoring run in a span of just under four minutes as Wesleyan led 8-1. Baine scored her first of the day and later assisted on goals from
Molly Greer '24 and
Brooke Nelson '24 in the spurt.
Leading 8-2 at the half, Wesleyan put the game away in the third quarter, outscoring Bowdoin 3-0 to take a 11-2 lead into the fourth. Weintraub was stellar once again, making saves on all four of Bowdoin's shots on goal in the period. The Cardinals got back-to-back Baine goals, along with a Polar Bear own goal to account for the scoring.
With the game in-hand, the Cardinals emptied the bench while Bowdoin didn't go away quietly, outscoring Wesleyan 5-1 in the fourth to account for the 12-7 final score line.
Wesleyan outshot Bowdoin 25-21 for the game and 22-12 in the first three quarters combined. The Cardinals went 4-for-7 on free position shot attempts while Bowdoin finished 1-for-4.
Baine continues to ride the hot hand, finishing with six points on three goals and three assists. She is already just three goals, five assists, and eight points away from single-season career-highs across the board. Baine added three ground balls to her totals on the day.
Green registered a career-high four points in the win, finishing with one goal and three assists with three ground balls. Green has recorded at least two points in four of the last six games since entering the starting lineup.
Kiara Tangney '25 led the midfield unit with four draw controls, three caused turnovers, and one ground ball.
The Cardinals stay in Maine overnight and return to action on Sunday at Noon as they take on Bates.
