No. 4 Women’s Lacrosse Rolls Past Bates, 18-5, Earning Team Record Seventh Straight Win

Cardinals net season-high 18 goals with 12 different goal scorers

LEWISTON, Me. – A dominant all-around display from the No. 4 ranked Wesleyan women's lacrosse team saw the Cardinals ease past Bates in an 18-5 win on Sunday afternoon from Garcelon Field. The victory marks the seventh straight win for the Cardinals (12-2, 7-2 NESCAC), setting a new team record for longest win streak, while the Bobcats (5-9, 1-8 NESCAC) have lost five of their last six games.

On a day wherein Wesleyan scored a season-high 18 goals, contributions came from all over the lineup as 12 different Cardinals scored at least once while 15 had at least one point. Sam DeLeo '25 and Olivia Lai '23 each recorded three goals and one assist while Bridget Horst '26 had two goals and one assist and Lindsey Diomede '26 scored twice.

The Cardinals hit the throttle early, as four different players scored goals in just 2:40 to build a 4-0 lead. Bates found some success on offense in the remainder of the quarter as the Cardinals led 7-3 after one as the two sides traded goals for the remainder of the first.

Even with the Bobcats finding some footing in the first quarter, the second and third quarters was one-way traffic in favor of Wesleyan. The Cardinals outscored the Bobcats 9-0 over those two quarters and combined with another goal to start the fourth, rattled off a 10-0 run to build a 17-3 advantage.

Lai scored 4:49 into the second quarter to start the scoring run, beginning a streak of three straight offensive possessions for the Cardinals that resulted in goals. Plagued by turnovers throughout the first half, Bates had no answer, and a Becca Dibble '26 goal with just 13 seconds left in the second quarter made it 11-3 Cardinals at halftime.

The Cardinal dominance continued in the third quarter as Wesleyan outscored the Bobcats 5-0 in the frame. Lai completed her hat trick to open the second half scoring and Bridget Horst '26 scored an unassisted goal 59 seconds later to put Wesleyan up 13-3 and start the double-digit margin running clock.

Alix Riley '25 netted her first of the season a few minutes later, starting another run of three straight offensive possessions ending in goals for Wesleyan. DeLeo netted her third goal in the third while Georgia Mackie '24 found the back of the net to make it 16-3 heading into the fourth.

Addie Cummings '26 highlighted the fourth quarter, scoring her first career goal to cap Wesleyan's 10-0 run. After Bates scored a pair of goals, Kyra Browne '26 scored her first of the season to finish off the scoring in the 18-5 Wesleyan win.

All three Cardinal goalkeepers – Izzy Weintraub '26, Olivia Klein '24, and April Rowe '27 - saw the field and combined for five saves.

Wesleyan finishes off the regular season on Wednesday with a 6 PM start at Conn. College. The Cardinals will either be the #2 or #3 seed in the NESCAC Tournament which begins on Saturday with the Quarterfinal round.
