Cardinals Close Regular Season with Sweep of Conn.

MIDDLETOWN, CT. – In a showcase victory to close out the regular season, the Wesleyan men's tennis team swept Connecticut College, 9-0, on Saturday afternoon as they won their second match in a row to celebrate seniors Ben Mitchell '24 and Harry Portnoy '24 at the John Wood Memorial Courts.

The Cardinals finish the regular season with a 6-10 overall record as they go 5-5 in the NESCAC and will enter the NESCAC Tournament as the No. 6, facing No. 3 Tufts in the quarterfinal matchups.

Kicking off the morning with a bang, JT Bilski '26 and Mitchell claimed a 8-1 victory over Sigmund Winiecki and Aaron Fleishman as the No. 1 doubles pairing. Walker Milligan and Jared Leong tried to pick up a win over the Cardinals at No. 2, but Max Lustgarten '25 and Harry Collomb '26 refused and took the win, 8-5. The final doubles point went to Portnoy and partner Chase Kasday '26 as they held off Jules Taylor-Kerman and James Serhant, 8-6.

In the No. 1 singles position, JT Bilski defeated Fleishman 6-1, 6-0 for his second win of the match. Brett Keeling '27 on court three had a bit of pushback on his hands as set one went in his favor 7-6 before downing Taylor-Kerman again in set two, 6-1.

Max Litton '26 came away with a victory at No. 4, claiming a 6-3, 6-1 win over Walker Mulligan. Lustgarten made quick work of Gavin Anderson, pulling out a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 5. Portnoy's second win of the match came again Serhant as Portnoy went 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6

The final point of the match went to Mitchell as he faced Arjun Premkumar on court two, sealing the Cardinals' sweep with a 6-3, 6-3 final score.

The Cardinals will spend the week preparing for the NESCAC Tournament beginning on Friday, May 3, at 9 a.m., site to be determined.
