Cardinals wrap undefeated regular season with sweep of Conn.

MIDDLETOWN, CT. – As they enter the NESCAC Tournament for the ninth year in a row, the Wesleyan women's tennis team wrapped up a 15-0 undefeated regular season on Saturday afternoon as the defeated Connecticut College 9-0 from the John Wood Memorial Courts on Senior Day.

Going 10-0 in the NESCAC, the Cardinals enter the NESCAC Tournament as the No. 1 seed and will face the winner of the No. 8 seed, Hamilton, Trinity, or Bates, as to be determined on Monday, April 29.

As the Cardinals celebrated senior Caitlyn Ferrante '24, Ferrante picked up two wins to help the Cardinals to their sweep, jumpstarting the afternoon matchup with a win at No. 1 doubles with partner Sarah Youngberg. Ferrante, with 24 victories this season, is ranked fifth all time in total wins with 101. Ferrante and Youngberg defeated Courtney Banks and Maya Kowalska, 8-1.

The No. 3 pairing of Renna Mohsen-Breen '25 and Lane Durkin '27 closed their undefeated season with a 8-5 victory over Ella Griffiths and Sana Bhat. The final doubles point went to Leila Epstein '26 and Jackie Soloveychik '27 as they beat Lily Kerachsky and Caitlin Cass, 8-5 at No. 2.

Mohsen-Breen, undefeated in singles play with a 15-0 record, defeated Griffiths at No. 6 for her 103rd-career win, placing her just ahead of teammate Ferrante in all-time wins at fourth.

Youngberg was quick to finish Kerachsky on court two as she claimed a 6-0, 6-0, sweep. Leila Epstein also swept at No. 3, defeating Kowalska 6-0, 6-0. At No. 4, Soloveychik went 6-0, 6-1 against Courtney Banks. Durkin at No. 5 had a fight through the first set going 6-4, but finished off Bhat with a 6-0 second set.

The final point of the match went to Ferrante as she put away a 6-2, 6-2 final score over Cass to celebrate her incredible career as a Cardinal.

The Cardinals will spend the week preparing for the NESCAC Tournament beginning on Friday, May 3, with action starting a 1 p.m., at the John Wood Memorial Courts.
