MIDDLETOWN, CT. – The Wesleyan men's tennis team put an end to a five-match winless streak as they defeated Bates College 8-1 on Sunday afternoon from the John Wood Memorial Courts, picking up some much-needed NESCAC points.
Harry Collomb '26 and
Max Lustgarten '25 were the first to finish in doubles play, defeating Theo Sardain and Nicky Desai in a 8-2 match win as the No. 2 doubles pairing. The No. 3 pairing of
Chase Kasday '26 and
Harry Portnoy '24 came away with a hard-fought 8-5 match win over Evangelo Kaothanasi and Ben Adey. The lone point for the Bobcats went to Matthew Danielson and Phillippe Kosyagin as they defeated
JT Bilski '26 and
Ben Mitchell '24 at No. 1, 8-6.
Max Litton '26 earned the first singles point of the match for the Cardinals at No. 5, downing Adey in a 6-3, 6-0 win. Bilski redeemed himself in the No. 1 slot with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Danielson. Collomb, earning his second point of the match, defeated Alex Park in a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 4. Portnoy, also picking up a second win, downed Kosyagin at No. 6, 6-3, 7-6. Mitchell beat Sardain 6-4, 7-5 in the No. 2 singles match up. The final point went to
Brett Keeling '27 who went three sets against Desai as Desai took set one, 6-0. But Keeling made a 6-2, 7-5 comeback to snag the point.
The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, April 13, when they host Williams at the John Wood Memorial Courts, beginning at 10 a.m.
