SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – The Wesleyan men's track & field team saw a pair of school records broken while two more Cardinals earned second-place finishes in their respective events over the weekend at the 2024 New England Division III Championships hosted by Mount Holyoke College. The Cardinals earned 29 points, finishing in a tie for 11
th in the team standings out of 34 teams.
Besting his own school record in the 400m,
Sam Musto '24 clocked in at 49.22 seconds on Saturday to reset the school record time that previously stood at 49.39 seconds. Musto's school record time was good enough for fifth place out of 23 sprinters.
The second school record to fall on the day saw
Nate Fogarty '25 break the previous 800m mark that had been set by his classmate
George Lepska '25. Fogarty finished the 800m in 1:52.48, placing sixth overall out of 25 in the event.
Liam Calhoun '26 made his mark in the 5,000m, as the sophomore set a personal-best time of 14:46.65 to capture second place in the event out of 11 competing.
Noah Mahoney '27 gave the Cardinals another runner-up finisher as the first-year was second-best in the 10,000m, clocking in at 31:18.84 in what was his first career appearance in the 10k.
Wesleyan's 4x800m relay team had a strong showing, finishing in fifth place out of 22 teams with a time of 7:52.69.
Javier Orellana '25 threw 13.84m in the shot put to place 11
th out of 22.
Rob D'Aquila '25 placed 14
th out of 20 in the 1500m with a time of 3:59.89.
Aidan Ward '24 (15:09.75; 7
th out of 11 in 5000m) and
Alex Kermath '26 (15:12.93; 9
th out of 11 in the 5000m) also competed for the Cardinals.
Next up for the Cardinals is the Open New England Championships which features athletes in all three NCAA Divisions.
