MIDDLETOWN, CT. – The Wesleyan women's soccer team took home their second NESCAC win on Saturday afternoon as they defeated Bates College, 1-0, in a toe-to-toe matchup from Jackson Field.
While it may have seemed as if the Bobcats (3-1-1 overall, 1-1-0 NESCAC) were holding an equal edge to the Cardinals, the Cardinals (4-0-0 overall, 2-0-0 NESCAC) controlled the narrative from the start despite the low tallying score. The Cardinals outshot the Bobcats 11-1 in the first half,
Tori Rideau-Winds '26 and the defense only allowing two shots the entire match.
Molly Brumbach '26 was good for one save in goal, earning the shutout.
In the 74
th minute,
Katie O'Connell '25 was tripped up by Bobcats goalkeeper Ruby Reimann in an exhausted effort to regain possession in front of the goal. The Cardinals were awarded a penalty kick, taken by
Caty Clements '25. Off her left foot, Clements' shot rolled low to the back of the net.
Reimann made four saves on the afternoon, facing sixteen total shots for the Bobcats.
The Cardinals return to action on Sunday, Sept. 22, when they host Middlebury in NESCAC action at Jackson Field at 11 a.m.
