MIDDLETOWN, CT. – The Wesleyan women's soccer team was forced to their first draw of the season, putting up two goals against Middlebury College with the game finalized as a 2-2 NESCAC matchup on Sunday afternoon from Jackson Field.
The Panthers (3-0-3 overall, 2-0-2 NESCAC) were first on the scoreboard after 20 minutes of play, Chloe Swindle getting the nod. Gigi Day started the play with a throw in to Kelly Bertos, making the pass back to Day before finding Mia Feldman in the middle. Swindle chased Feldman's pass into the box and into the left corner.
The lead was short lived for the Panthers as
Maria Utz '27 tied the game just 43 seconds later.
Kerenza Leahey '27 took the free kick for the Cardinals (4-0-1 overall, 2-0-1 NESCAC), finding
Katie O'Connell '25 inside the box at the left post. O'Connell's header fell at Utz feet as she rushed the opposite end of the box.
An unfortunate own goal by the Cardinals gave the Panthers a 2-1 lead heading into the half. O'Connell recorded her own goal in the second half for a personal three-point game, catching Leahey's pass down the middle before taking her shot from the top of the box and working the ball into the left corner.
In goal,
Molly Brumbach '26 made two saves for the Cardinals on the afternoon. At the opposite end, Carolyn Kelley recorded two saves for the Panthers.
The Cardinals return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 25, when they travel to WestConn for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
