MIDDLETOWN, CT. – Returning to Middletown for their home opener after a first game victory on the road, the Wesleyan men's soccer team took Babson College down to the final seconds in a scoreless draw that gave junior goalkeeper
Mathis Blanc '26 his second shutout in a just a week from Jackson Field.
It was a defensive fight to the bitter end as both teams were held without a goal through ninety minutes of action on Saturday afternoon. The Beavers, despite being outshot by the Cardinals 17-5 overall, took control of the play through most of the first 45 minutes. The Beavers led an offensive push that forced the Cardinals back into their zone, unable to gain momentum.
In the final minutes of the half the Cardinals were able to gain ground and catch their breath, putting up four shots on Beavers goalkeeper Walker White.
Yousuf Saeed '26 and
Lucas Ruehlemann '25 led the offensive turn heading into the half.
A far chippier second half saw the Cardinals defensive edge shine as it did last season, lead by
Will Geballe '26,
Zach Feldman '27, and newcomer
John SennMcNally '28. The trio ran the pitch for all 90 minutes of game action, holding the Beavers to four total shots on Blanc.
Blanc earns his second shutout game of the week, making four saves in net for the Cardinals. White finished the game at the other end with seven saves.
The Cardinals return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 11, when they travel north to Trinity for a 7 p.m. NESCAC kickoff.
