Devenney and the Cardinals Shut Out Williams, 1-0

MIDDLETOWN, CT. – Scoreless after 40 minutes of game play, Cameron Devenney '28 locked in and tallied her first of the season on the power play to give the Wesleyan women's ice hockey team the 1-0 NESCAC victory over Williams College on Friday night in the first of two games this weekend from Wesleyan's Spurrier-Snyder Arena.

While the Ephs (6-4-0 overall, 0-3-0 NESCAC) were ready to take the Cardinals (6-6-0 overall, 1-4-0 NESCAC) to overtime with less than 10 minutes remaining in a still scoreless game, the Cardinals finally caught a break and took the man advantage after the Ephs were called for a tripping minor.

The initial faceoff win to start the power play went to Amelia Molin '27 but the puck would make only a handful of touches before finding its way to the back of the net. Sitting atop the unit, Sam DeLeo '25 fired from the blue line and sent the puck down the middle where it deflected off the stick of Dylan Green '26. Devenney snagged the rebound off Green's contact and batted the puck behind Erin Pye.

The Cardinals would hold the lead for the final minutes of regulation before taking home their fourth victory in a row and their third shutout of the season.

Though relatively equal in scoring opportunities through the first two periods, neither team was able to get on the board after 40 minutes of action. The Ephs held a 13-9 differential through period one before the Cardinals managed to tilt the contest in their favor through period two, 8-6. The Cardinals' penalty kill units managed to hold off the Ephs on holding and slashing calls, and totaled 11 blocks through both periods.

Sam Galanek '26 led from the faceoff with 10 wins for the Cardinals as they were beaten by just one faceoff win in a 27-26 break.

In goal, Jenna Guglielmi '27 picked up her third win of the season while making 32 saves in goal. Pye finished the evening for the Ephs with 28.

The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Jan. 11, when they face the Ephs in the second of their weekend series with puck drop at 3 p.m.
