WORCESTER, Mass. – In a near perfect day out on the mat, the Wesleyan wrestling team landed a pair of dominant dual wins on Saturday, defeating Bridgewater State 46-6 and host WPI 38-3. The Cardinals improve to 3-0 on the season while the Bears fall to 0-4 and the Engineers drop to 7-2 in 2024-25.
Facing off against the Bears, Wesleyan landed four wins by pinfall and three more by tech falls in a one-sided affair.
Joe Colon '25 was the fastest to pin his opponent, landing a tap on James Grover in just 1:35 at 184.
Ike Guttentag '26 landed a pin on Benjamin Hankinson in 1:40 at 149,
Ronnie Christolin '28 needed 1:53 to pin Mathew Blandon at 157, while
Hayden Myers '27 landed his first of two pins on the day as he handled Malcolm Chrispin at 141 in 2:42.
CJ Shea '25 continued his undefeated season, securing a 18-2 tech fall win at 165 against Hunter Logan in a match that lasted 3:38.
Chris Hong '27 picked up a 21-5 tech fall victory at 125 over Sei Dolomengi while
Max Martinez '25 landed a 19-3 triumph at 133 in the closing seconds against Christopher Dubey.
The remaining two wins in the dual match against Bridgewater State saw
Aris Dashiell '25 land a 14-5 major decision win over Christian Curley at 197 while
Andrew Maiorini '25 held on for a 6-2 decision win over Michael Hopkins at 174.
It was much of the same in the nightcap as Wesleyan won nine of 10 bouts to secure a dominant 38-3 win over WPI. Myers pinned Mason Medina in 2:27 at 141 while Will Orso '26, wrestling for the first time in his career at Wesleyan, landed a pin of Trevor Bowen in 4:04 in the heavyweight bout.
Shea dominated once again at 165, finishing off a 15-0 tech fall win over Theo Sawyers. Three bouts saw Wesleyan land a major decision victory including Guttentag (11-3 over Mason Basara), Christolin (11-2 over Joey Baisley), and Dashiell (11-3 over Nicolas LeSieur).
Wesleyan then took three of the remaining four bouts by decision outcomes including a 10-9 triumph for Martinez at 133, 6-4 win for Maiorini at 174, and Colon was victorious with a 7-3 win at 197.
Completing the day with four individual bouts against Maine Maritime, Wesleyan went 3-1 in those bouts including pins for Hong at 125, Shea at 165, and Maiorini at 174.
The Cardinals look to continue their unbeaten start to the dual match season next Saturday with a trip to the Ursinus Tournament.
