STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. –
Javier Orellana '25 broke a 10-year-old indoor team record in the shot put, leading the Wesleyan men's track & field team at the NYC Gotham Cup on Friday afternoon from the Ocean Breeze Complex.
Orellana stepped to the circle and threw 15.03m, good enough for third place out of 35 throwers in the shot put, to set a new indoor school record, breaking the previous record of 15.01m held by Agbon Edomwonyi since 2014.
The entire Wesleyan contingent in the one mile event had a successful race, with
Liam Calhoun '26 leading the way with a fourth place finish out of 50 runners, crossing the line in 4:14.84 which is just 0.32 seconds off his personal-best time.
Noah Mahoney '27 (4:25.35),
Calder Burke '27 (4:25.42), and
Ben McKinney '27 (4:25.99) all competed in the one mile with each landing personal-best times and a Top 15 finish.
Wesleyan's distance medley relay team landed a victory, placing first out of eight teams with a time of 10:19.16.

Nate Fogarty '25, and Calhoun all teamed up for the win.
Singleton's strong day continued in the 400m as the first-year ran the event in 49.74 seconds, taking fourth place out of 63 in the event.
Wesleyan's contingent in the 1000m saw Fogarty land in seventh place out of 31 runners, crossing the line in 2:30.07. D'Aquila landed right behind in eighth place with a personal-best time of 2:31.70.
Elias Warner '28 made it two Cardinals setting personal-best marks in the shot put as the first-year threw 12.83m to place 11
th overall out of 35.
The weight throw saw
Will Dollhopf '25 finish in eighth place at 15.09m while
James Giokaris '24, G'25 toss 14.74m to land in 13
th place.
Next up for the Cardinals is a return to the Bacon Field House on Saturday, January 25 with the Wesleyan Indoor Invite starting at 10 AM.
