MIDDLETOWN, CT. – Playing host to a weekend tri-meet, the Wesleyan men's swimming and diving fell in non-conference action to Springfield College, 182-112, and Roger Williams University, 131-129.5, on Saturday afternoon as they celebrated their senior class. Wesleyan saw five first-place finishes and 10 Top 3 placements overall.
Outside of the relay teams,
Brody Schrepfer '28 was the first victor of the day for the men's team. Touching the wall at 16:45.36, Schrepfer won the 1650 free with Harmut Doerwaldt '25 close behind in third with his own time of 17:49.44.
Harrison Hong '25 cleaned up with a pair of wins in the 50 free and the 50 fly. Hong's first go came in the 50 free where he clocked in at 21.65. In the 50 fly, Hong beat the competition with a 22.65.
With the final individual win of the meet for the Cardinals,
Fritz Bretall '25 was the winner of the 50 back, swimming a final time of 25.24.
In the 200 free,
Nathan Wu '28 placed third as he crossed the threshold with a 1:51.47. Schrepfer also placed third in the 100 breast, swimming a final 1:00.16.
Bretall, Schrepfer, Hong, and Wu led the Cardinals to first-place in the 200 medley relay with a combined final time of 1:35.53. In the 400 free relay, Hong, Schrepfer, Wu, and
Fred Li '25 placed second as they finished overall with a 3:14.47.
The Cardinals return to the pool on Saturday, Jan. 25, when they head to Colby for a NESCAC faceoff beginning at 1 p.m.
