BOSTON, MA. – It was personal-best times all around for the Wesleyan men's track and field team on Sunday to highlight the competition at the New England Small College Invite, hosted by Middlebury at the Track at New Balance. Wesleyan was led by
Liam Calhoun and
Noah Mahoney with first place finishes as Wesleyan pocketed 10 Top 10 placements.
In the track events, the Cardinals saw seven top finishes, all of which ended with personal best times for the seven runners. Leading the way,
Liam Calhoun '26 placed first in the 3000m race and crossed the line at 8:22.66. The program record in the event is 8:22.09. Calhoun wasn't the only winner on the day as
Noah Mahoney '27 won the 5000m race with a clocked final of 15:07.16.
Kicking off the meet,
Steve Paul '28 and
Ethan Singleton '28 ran the 200m dash. Paul placed fourth at 22.14 while Singleton placed just behind him in sixth with a 22.19 final. Claiming fourth in the men's mile was
Rob D'Aquila '26 at 4:19.02 while
Bruce Lenes '26 fell behind in fifth place and clocked in at 4:19.67.
Closing out the track events,
Calder Burke '27 finished in the Top 5 of the 5000m with Mahoney, placing fourth as he crossed the line at 15:40.22.
Leading the field events,
Daniel Bench '27 carved out a new personal best distance in the triple jump as he finished at 12.88m.
Javier Orellana '25 placed fourth in the shot put, throwing for 14.72m. In the weight throw
Will Dollhopf '25 placed seventh, throwing for 15.00m.
On Saturday, Jan. 25, the Cardinals landed several top placements in their home indoor invite. Highlighting the day, three finished in the Top 10 in the weight throw. Dollhopf placed second (15.59m),
James Giokaris '24 placed sixth (14.71), and
Rami Hayes-Messinger '26 placed 10
th (13.72m). In the 800m,
Alex Lara '27 claimed second with a 2:04.35 final.
The Cardinals will get a break before heading out on Friday, Feb. 7, and Saturday, Feb. 8, to Tufts for the Cupid Challenge.
