Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Cardinals Defeated at Home by No. 3 Amherst

MIDDLETOWN, CT. – While looking to build off the momentum of an upset victory the night before, the Wesleyan women's hockey team fell in NESCAC action on Saturday afternoon to No. 3 Amherst College, 2-1, in the second game of their weekend series as the team was led by Christina Tournas '25 from Spurrier-Snyder Arena.

The Cardinals hosted their eighth annual Pink Game on Saturday afternoon, paying tribute to Joan Kilar, the mother of Jackie Kilar '19, who lost her battle with breast cancer in 2014. The first Pink Game was held in 2017, and the Cardinals have continued the tradition to bring awareness to breast cancer research, early screenings, and support for survivors and those affected by breast cancer.

Down two goals with seconds to spare in regulation, the Cardinals (7-11-0 overall, 2-8-0 NESCAC) broke the Mammoths(12-3-1 overall, 5-2-1 NESCAC) lead in half as Tournas struck on the power play. The Cardinals gained the man advantage as the Mammoths were given a late roughing call but proceeded with a six-on-four advantage as goaltender Jenna Guglielmi '27 was pulled for an extra skater.

Down low in the near, right corner, Dylan Green '26 fought to keep possession and shuffled the puck to Tournas behind the goal. Tournas wrapped the puck around the right post for Amelia Molin '27, but Molin's quick pass back gave Tournas enough space to stuff the puck over the line as Mammoths goaltender Natalie Stott was anticipating a shot from Molin.

Through the first 40 minutes of action, the Mammoths and the Cardinals were held without a goal despite the Mammoths' dominating offensive presence. The Cardinals defense and Guglielmi faced 40 shots on goal, allowing only two over the line. It wasn't until the third period that the Mammoths were able to capitalize and rang up a goal with 15 minutes to go thanks to Alyssa Xu. Bea Flynn scored the game winner for the Mammoths 40 seconds prior to Tournas' goal.

Caroline Kee '26 led from the faceoff circle, winning 12 draws while also stepping up for four blocked shots.

Guglielmi finished the afternoon in goal with 38 saves. Stott earned the win, making 24 saves.

The Cardinals return to action on Friday, Jan. 31, when they travel down the road to Conn. for a 7 p.m. puck drop.
