MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Wesleyan football junior linebacker
Austin Baker '27 was named the NESCAC Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. Baker's first career POW comes on the heels of a dominant defensive display from the Cardinals in a 24-7 road win over Colby on Saturday.
Â
Baker tallied six solo tackles, one tackle for loss, and two pass breakups in helping lead the Cardinals win on the road over Colby. In the 17-point win, the Wesleyan defense held the Mules to just 110 yards of total offense, which is the fewest yards for a Cardinal opponent since 2018, while Colby was forced into a punt on eight of its nine possessions in the contest.
Â
The Cardinals (4-1) are in the midst of a three-game win streak and are back home on Saturday for a 1 PM kickoff against Bowdoin (0-5).
