SARATOGA, N.Y. - Facing a tough weekend of competition at Skidmore College, the Wesleyan men's tennis team saw
Chase Kasday '26 and
Ryuto Saito '29 emerge with a title win in the Skidmore Open Doubles C Draw on Sunday afternoon, leading the way as fall play continues.
Entering the weekend with a body in every draw at the Thoroughbreds, the Cardinals walked away with solid victories throughout. Kasday and Saito began the weekend in the C Draw quarterfinal, defeating Sidney Huet and Anand Sarasrabudhe of Middlebury in a 6-4 final. Kasday, who previously won a doubles draw title at the same tournament last year with
Brett Keeling, proved to be resourceful for the Cardinals through the stretch.
Meeting Denison's Aidan Borosko and Kyle Patrick in the semifinal, Kasday and Saito worked up another victory, downing the duo with a 6-3 tally before Swarthmore saw them in the finals. Victorious over Winston Zhang and Aamish Pal, the pair won the C-Draw title with a 6-2 final score.
In the D Draw,
Nicky Hermes '29 and
Tai MacDonald '26 reached the semifinal round but were defeated by Swarthmore's Fate MacAlasdair and Cameron Samek, 6-4.
On the singles side of the competition,
Chase Burke '29 made his own run at the finals and was named a finalist in the singles C Draw with three victories in his wake. Falling to Lucas Riezebeek of Bowdoin in the final, 6-4, 3-6, 10-7, Burke began with a win over another Polar Bear, Jack Pollack, 6-4, 6-4 in the round of 16. Middlebury's Nathan Jackson was next in the quarterfinal, and Burke picked up a 6-3, 6-3 win before taking on Tom Suedmeyer from Denison in the semifinal. Burke earned the win in a 3-6, 6-4, 10-4 final.
Next up for the Cardinals is the Quinnipiac Mixed Tournament on Sunday, Oct. 26.
