WORCESTER, Mass. – The Wesleyan men's crew team completed its fall season with the varsity 8 boat taking third place at the Wormtown Chase on Saturday on Lake Quinsigamond.
Racing against a field that included Holy Cross and MIT, both of whom compete at the Division I level in men's crew, the Cardinals' varsity 8 took third place in the men's collegiate 8+ competition with a time of 15:05.5. Wesleyan's V8 placed behind Holy Cross and was just 0.2 seconds behind the runner-up MIT while the Cardinals' top boat finished ahead of WPI and Coast Guard by a considerable margin.
Wesleyan's 2
nd varsity 8 boat had a tremendous showing, placing fifth overall and second-fastest among 2V8 crews in the field. The Cardinals finished with a time of 15:43.4 to take fifth place, finishing ahead of MIT's 2V8 in the process.
The Cardinals fielded a 3
rd varsity 8 and 4
th varsity 8 boats, finishing 10
th and 12
th overall, respectively. Wesleyan's 3V8 was the second-best C boat in the field, clocking in at 16:08.7 (just 0.1 seconds behind the Holy Cross 3V8), as was the 4V8 which clocked in at 16:19.4.
This regatta concludes the fall season for the Cardinals who now shift their focus onto preparing for the spring season.
