WATERVILLE, ME. – The Wesleyan men's soccer team was six minutes from a shutout victory on Saturday afternoon but with 84 minutes on the board, Colby College tied the game up and forced a 1-1 NESCAC draw from Mark Serdjenian Field.
With just one game remaining in the regular season, the Cardinals (8-3-2 overall, 5-1-2 NESCAC) nearly pulled off a ninth overall win as
Will Martin '26 scored his first goal of the season in the second half to give the Cardinals a one-goal lead. Frustrating the Cardinals' final seeding, the Mules (5-4-4 overall, 0-4-4 NESCAC) scored their own goal and closed out the match with a tie.
Martin's goal came in the 70
th minute, resulting on the efforts of a throw in from the far line while down in the Mules defensive zone. Taking the throw,
Julian Cauvin '29 threw a short pass to
Joshwin Jennings '27 with the ball rebounding back to him. Cauvin made contact with
Aiden Londergan '27 on the next touch, Londergan's long shot to the front of the net knocked over the goal line by Martin as he charged the goal.
Marking six minutes remaining on the clock, Chase Dolinko brought the Mules back into contention with his shot falling behind Cardinals' goalkeeper
Mathis Blanc '26.
Through the first half, the Cardinals held a even shot margin but the Mules pulled away in the final 45 to finish the game with a 14-5 overall differential.
Blanc earns his seventh victory of the season with five saves. Opposite Blanc, Jackson Magee finished with two saves.
The Cardinals close out the regular season on Tuesday, Oct. 28, when they host Conn. at 8 p.m.
