No. 8 Field Hockey Handles Colby, 4-0; Win Streak Up to Seven

Cardinals win their sixth straight NESCAC game, setting a new team record

WATERVILLE, Me. – The wins keep piling up for the No. 8 ranked Wesleyan field hockey team, as the Cardinals handled Colby in a 4-0 win on Saturday afternoon. After starting league play with an 0-3 record, Wesleyan (11-3, 6-3 NESCAC) are winners of seven straight overall while today's triumph makes it a team record six straight NESCAC wins. This defeat snaps a three-game win streak for Colby (6-8, 2-7 NESCAC) and takes the Mules out of postseason contention.

Today's 4-0 win represents the seventh shutout on the year for Wesleyan, matching a team record set in 1997. Wesleyan's seven-game win streak is tied for the second-longest in team history and is the longest winning run for the Cardinals since 2004.

The scoring opened just over three minutes into the second quarter when Kenzie Mauro '27 dribbled through multiple defenders on the left wing. Entering the circle on the near side, Mauro flicked the ball up and over the stick of a Colby defender and nudged a pass to open space at the top of the circle for Leila Feldman '28 who lined up a shot that beat Colby goalie Ginna Jacoby inside the left post.

Colby had the better of the ball for the reminder of the second quarter, following the Feldman opener, but Audrey Pace '26 came up with two saves while Anna Broderick '27 got in front of a Bridget Everett shot on-goal for a defensive save to keep the Cardinals out in front heading into the second half.

Wesleyan began to assert their will on the game with two goals in the third quarter, both scored by Emily Smith '29. Feldman inserted a penalty corner and the ball swung to Brooke Miner '28 on the wing who quickly passed to Smith at the opposite post. Smith controlled the Miner pass and had time to line up a shot to make it 2-0 Cardinals less than three minutes into the third quarter.

A series of great passes led to Smith's second goal of the quarter. Marley Procopio '29 sent a through ball to Miner on the left wing. Miner lofted a pass to Meera Patel '29 inside the circle who centered for Smith. With Jacoby having gone to ground, Smith took one touch and found open space inside the left post.

The Cardinals tacked on another goal with less than nine minutes remaining as Georgia Adams '26 received an insert on a penalty corner and wound up like she was going to shoot from distance. Instead, Adams passed to Sydney Cameron '26 right in the center of the circle who corralled the ball and lifted a shot off the turf for her first goal of the year, finishing off the scoring in a 4-0 Wesleyan win.

Wesleyan led 1-0 at the half despite being outshot 10-5 in the first half and the Cardinals turned on the jets in the second half, outshooting Colby 12-3 after halftime including 7-1 in the third quarter alone.

Smith's two goals represent her second multi-goal game of the year. The first-year midfielder has 12 points (four goals, four assists) across the last five games.

Adams' assist on the Cameron fourth quarter goal gives her 102 career points, tied for second-most in team history.

Wesleyan closes out the regular season on Tuesday night with a home game against Conn. College at 7 PM from Hicks Field.
