Matt Fitzsimons Named NESCAC Offensive Player of the Week

Fitzsimons enjoyed a career day in the Cardinals' 42-point win over Hamilton

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Wesleyan junior quarterback Matt Fitzsimons '27 was named the NESCAC Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. This is Fitzsimons' first career NESCAC POW honor and comes on the heels of him earning the New England Football Writers Association Week 6 Gold Helmet Award, given to the top player in New England at the Division II/III level each week.

Fitzsimons was outstanding all afternoon long against the Hamilton defense, as the Cardinal signal caller completed 20-of-23 passes for 365 yards and five touchdowns in a 56-14 home win over the Continentals. Fitzsimons completed 13 straight passes during the game while six different Cardinals caught at least one pass. The five passing touchdowns represents the most by a Cardinal quarterback since 2016 while the 365 yards represented his first career 300-yard passing game in what was just his third career start for Wesleyan.

The Cardinals (3-1) are winners of two straight and head into another road game on Saturday as Wesleyan travels to take on Colby at 1:30 PM in Waterville.
