MIDDLETOWN, CT. - Now on a five-game unbeaten streak, the 25
th ranked Wesleyan men's soccer team sits second in the NESCAC after
Aiden Londergan's '27 hat trick put away Trinity College in a 4-1 powerhouse performance on Tuesday evening from Jackson Field.
Marking the first men's soccer hat trick since 2015, Londergan's three-game tear has turned up the heat for the Cardinals (6-2-2 overall, 4-0-2 NESCAC). Scoring at least a goal in his last three games, the starting midfielder now leads all Cardinals in scoring with five. He ranks Top 3 in the NESCAC in goals and points.
Wasting little time, Londergan net the first of his three goals within the first two minutes of gameplay. Failing to clear the zone on a throw in, the Bantams (3-4-2 overall, 0-4-2 NESCAC) could not escape the attack by the Cardinals. Yousuff Saeed '27 stripped the Bantams of the ball in a squabble above the box, passing low into the far corner for
Will Martin '26 making his way inside. Martin's pass inside connected with Londergan's right foot, the ball clearing Nate Dyott's fingertips to the left corner.
The Cardinals kept relative control of the pace through the first half, but the Bantams did not take kindly to the two-goal lead that came in the 18
th minute. Martin once again was the catalyst, driving back down the far line with the Bantams tripped up in his wake. Allowing the ball to roll ahead inside the box,
Ford Cash '29 cut across and nailed the shot into the left corner as Dyott was caught too far out. The Bantams responded by outshooting the Cardinals into the half.
Catching a needed break, the Bantams cut the scoring shortly after the start of the second half. Trevor Saruwaka shot from out center and
Mathis Blanc '26 was unable to get across in time. The relief was short lived because Londergan answered four minutes later. Awarded a free kick, Saeed took the initial shot from the left corner of the box and nailed the near post. Londergan struck on the rebound.
With 20 minutes remaining in regulation, Londergan would get a final goal off the post to finish his hat trick. Connecting on a crossover through the box,
Julian Cauvin '29 settled the ball from out above for Londergan's heavy shot on goal, the ball bouncing off the top crossbar and over the line before Dyott could reach it.
In goal, Blanc earns his sixth victory of the season, making two saves. Dyott finished with three saves for the Bantams.
The Cardinals return to action in a must-watch NESCAC matchup on Saturday, Oct. 11, as they go head-to-head with No. 1 Williams. Kickoff begins at 12 p.m. in Williamstown.
