Women’s Hockey Sees Road Defeat at Conn., 4-2

NEW LONDON, CT. – Led by freshman Ainsley Lonczak with her first-career goal, the Wesleyan women's hockey team fell at the hands of Connecticut College, 4-2, in the second game of their weekend series from Conn.'s Dayton Arena.

After suffering a 4-1 defeat on Friday night, the Cardinals (7-13-0 overall, 2-10-0 NESCAC) regrouped for Saturday's NESCAC matchup with the Camels (8-9-1 overall, 4-7-1 NESCAC), but saw the Camels take a one-goal lead in the first period. The Camels earned an extra skater as the Cardinals were called for a cross-checking minor and capitalized with the opening goal from Alana Burm.

The Camels would hold their lead nearing the midway point of the second period before Lonczak would strike for the Cardinals. As the Cardinals held court, Cameron Devenney '27 was able to set up Lonczak for her first-career goal and tie the game up at one. Moments later, Isabelle Allieri '25 would give the Cardinals the lead with another even-strength goal with the help of Sam Galanek '26 whose efforts won the prior faceoff.

Opening the third period, the Camels would tie the game up at two with Ashely Engle earning the tally. Bridget McGann gave the Camels their second lead of the afternoon and was followed by Kylie McCarthy with just seconds on the clock with the empty net go ahead.

In goal for the Cardinals, Jenna Guglielmi '27 finished the afternoon with 36 saves. Devon Galizio earned the win making 20 saves.

The Cardinals will get a bye week and return to action on Friday, Feb. 14, when they host Colby in NESCAC action beginning at 7 p.m.
