MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Competing against No. 3 ranked and undefeated Bowdoin, the Wesleyan women's basketball team gave the Polar Bears some trouble, before Bowdoin ultimately ran away in the fourth quarter for a 70-49 win on Friday night. Wesleyan falls to 8-15 (2-7 NESCAC) while Bowdoin remains unbeaten at 23-0 (9-0 NESCAC).
Playing shorthanded, missing a pair of key contributors in the backcourt, the Cardinals hung in against one of the top teams in the nation, only trailing 12-9 after the first quarter. Defense carried the Cardinals, holding Bowdoin to just 5-of-19 shooting including a 1-for-10 effort from three in the opening 10 minutes.
Felicia Fongemie '27 scored or assisted on six of the nine points for Wesleyan in the frame.
It was back-and-forth between the two sides early in the second quarter before Bowdoin scored seven unanswered points, which led to a 13-2 run as the Polar Bears opened up a 29-15 lead. Bowdoin outscored Wesleyan 20-9 in the quarter.
Bowdoin went up by 18 points early in the third quarter, but the Cardinals found some success on offense, going 7-for-8 shooting in the stanza to outscore the Polar Bears 21-19 in the period.

Tori DaCosta '25 each scored six points while Fongemie produced five points and three assists to keep Wesleyan in the game.
The Polar Bears' lead held steady at 13 points until seven unanswered Bowdoin points made it 63-43 with 4:42 remaining, putting the Cardinals' comeback bid to rest.
DaCosta led the way for Wesleyan with 18 points, scoring 12 in the second half, on 7-for-11 shooting with four rebounds and four assists. Fongmie scored nine of her 13 points in the second half as the sophomore added five assists. Quinn stuffed the stat sheet with 11 points (3-8 3FG), eight rebounds, three assists, two steals, and three blocks.
Wesleyan managed to stay in the contest despite being outrebounded 49-19 including a 29-3 advantage for Bowdoin in offensive rebounds.
The Cardinals' 2024-25 season comes to an end on Saturday with a 3 PM tip against Colby in what will be Senior Day for DaCosta and
Maggie Smith '25.
