BOSTON, MA. – Highlighting a weekend with double the competition for the Wesleyan men's track and field team,
Liam Calhoun '26 broke the school record in the men's 3000m on Friday at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational and was joined fellow record breaker
Ethan Singleton '28 while Wesleyan continued the action at the Tufts Stampede Invitational on Saturday.
It's been four decades since Jeff Messer set the Cardinals' indoor record for the men's 3000m distance race at 8:22.09, but Calhoun decided it was time to redecorate the record books. Placing 165
th out of a field of 243 runners across NCAA Divisions I, II, and III, Calhoun crossed the finish line with a new school record time of 8:18.01, besting his previous time by nearly four seconds.
Calhoun wasn't the only Cardinal to break a record on Friday as he was joined by teammate Singleton who broke his own record in the men's 400m. Singleton's previous standing time in the event was 49.44 set on Dec. 8, at the UMass Boston Beacon Season Opener, but facing a field of 34, Singleton placed 20
th and clocked in a new record time of 48.99. Prior to the race, Singleton ran the 200m dash, placing 34
th with a final time of 22.35.
In the 200m dash invite,
Steve Paul closed his day with a Top 50 finish, placing 25
th out of 36 with a time of 22.22.
Just up the road in Medford on Saturday, the Cardinals closed out the weekend with several Top 10 finishes.
Zach Allen '27 and
Carlo Fedolfi '27 highlighted the team with third-place finishes. Fedolfi ran the 60m dash in 7.15 while Allen finished the mile with a 4:27.51.
The Cardinals dominated the 1000m with
Luke Consolati '25 leading the way in seventh place. Consolati ran a personal-best 2:36.90. In eighth place
Ben Taffet '26 finished at 2:37.25, and
Alex Lara '27 placed 10
th at 2:37.60.
Calder Burke '27 placed ninth in the 3000m race and crossed the finish line at 8:51.65 while
Daniel Manning '28 placed 10
th in the 800m with a clocked 2:05.16.
In the field,
Rami Hayes-Messinger '26 lead the way in the weight throw, placing seventh with a distance of 14.31.
Elias Warner '28 followed in eighth, throwing for 14.17m.
The Cardinals will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 22, when they compete in the Springfield Triangle Invitational beginning at 10:30 a.m.
