SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Wesleyan wrestling team placed eighth out of 16 teams at the NEWA Futures Tournament held on Sunday at Western New England. The Cardinals finished with 54.5 team points while Castleton won the event in a close battle with runner-up Coast Guard as the teams finished with 147 and 145 points, respectively.
Wrestling as the No. 2 seed at 149,
Kellen Horst '26 went on an extended run in the winner's bracket, winning four matches to compete in the title bout against Mike Edwards of Coast Guard. Horst opened with a pair of pins before landing consecutive major decision wins in the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds of the weight class. Edwards went on to defeat Horst by major decision in the title bout but his 4-1 record on the day, all in the winner's bracket, scored big points for Wesleyan in the team leaderboard.

Noah Lim '27 finished the way with a 4-2 record wrestling at 141, advancing to the semifinal round of the consolation bracket. Lim opened with a win by pinfall in 39 seconds in the winner's bracket, before rattling off three straight wins in the consolation bracket, landing one win each by pinfall, decision, and tech fall.

Akiva Lind '26 won a pair of bouts in the winner's bracket, reaching the quarterfinal stage at 165. Lind won by decision and tech fall before bowing out in the quarterfinals.

Several Cardinals picked up two wins on the day including
Sebastian Kristal '28 at 125, taking a match by decision in the winner's bracket while also landing a pinfall win in the consolation.
Dominic LaConte '28 landed a pinfall win in the opening round of the 133 winner's bracket before securing a 15-9 win by decision in the consolation flight.
Luke Burns '28 won by pinfall in the winner's bracket at 174 before adding a win by decision and forfeit in the consolation side of the bracket.

Wesleyan heads into the pivotal stage of the season as the Cardinals play host to the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships on March 1-2 in Bacon Field House.
