Women’s Basketball Falls at Home to Bates

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Trailing by just three points early in the fourth quarter, the Wesleyan women's basketball team saw Bates use a 16-1 run down the stretch that gave the Bobcats a 64-50 win on Sunday afternoon from Silloway Gymnasium.

After playing through a back and forth first quarter that featured seven lead changes, Bates seized control in the second quarter, outscoring the Cardinals 21-8 and benefitting largely from a 12-0 run midway through the frame. Bates stretched their lead to as many as 16 points before going into halftime with a 34-20 lead.

Wesleyan played their best ball in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 36-29 just under three minutes into the second half. The Cardinals later used a 11-2 run, with Alli Jones '27 scoring six of those 11 points, to shrink a 10-point deficit all the way down to 41-40 with 2:20 left in the third.

Just as Meghan Kirck '28 hit a triple to make it a one-point game, Mya Hicks responded with a wide open corner three that got the Bobcats back on track as Bates led 46-42 heading into the fourth.

After trading buckets in the opening two minutes of the fourth, the Bobcats ran away with this one as Bates went on a 16-1 run to seal the road NESCAC win. Bates outscored Wesleyan 18-8 in the fourth quarter, holding the Cardinals to 2-for-11 (18.2 percent) shooting from the floor.

Felicia Fongemie '27 led the Cardinals with 14 points on 6-of-13 shooting with three steals. Tori DaCosta '25 recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Olivia Quinn '26 had eight points, nine rebounds, three assists, and two steals while Jones came off the bench to score 10 points.

Alexandra Long had a game-high 15 points (7-11 FG) for the Bobcats while also leading the team with four assists. Elsa Daulerio finished with eight points, 12 rebounds, two assists, and two blocks.
