WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The No. 8 Wesleyan women's lacrosse team outscored Williams 6-0 in the first half, which proved more than enough in the end as the Cardinals went on to defeat the Ephs 9-5 on Friday night in a Little Three clash from Farley-Lamb Field. Wesleyan (3-1, 1-1 NESCAC) are winners of three straight while the Ephs (1-3, 0-2 NESCAC) drop another conference game.
After an early green card to Williams' Anna Miller just 23 seconds into play, the Cardinals cashed in with an
Elle Priesing '26 free position goal on the player-up. Williams struggled to get any flow, as the Ephs turned the ball over on each of their first seven possessions in the game. Wesleyan managed to turn one of those miscues into a goal as
Dylan Green '26 scored to spot the Cardinals a 2-0 lead after one.
The Cardinals added four more unanswered goals in the second quarter, getting early goals from
Addie Cummings '26 and
Lindsey Diomede '26 to make it a four-goal game.
Mya Waryas '27 then made it 5-0 just over four minutes later before
Kiara Tangney '25 scored on her first game back in her return to the Cardinal lineup, making it 6-0 Wesleyan at halftime.
After going 30 minutes without a goal, Williams got something going offensively with a goal on their first possession of the second half.
Becca Dibble '26 later answered with a player-up free position strike as the two sides traded goals all throughout the third quarter, heading into the fourth with Wesleyan leading 9-4.
The Ephs got an early goal from Sasha Landau to make it a four-goal game with 10:50 remaining but
Izzy Weintraub '26 shut the door on any potential comeback, making saves on both of Williams' shots-on-goal in the final 10:50 of play.
Tangney played well in her first game of the season, registering a three-point night on two goals and one assist. Waryas also had three points, totaling one goal and two assists. Priesing had one goal and one assist while eight Cardinals in total scored at least once in the win.
Weintraub played well throughout, making at least two saves in three of the four quarters, finishing with nine on the night with just five goals allowed. The junior goalkeeper added four ground balls to her totals.
Madeline Johnson '28 had two caused turnovers to lead the Wesleyan defense while four Cardinals each had two ground balls.
It's a quick turnaround for the Cardinals who travel to Florida on Saturday before facing Endicott on Monday at 7 PM at Publix Park in Panama City Beach, Florida.
