Singleton Continues to Break Down 400M at New England Championships

BOSTON, MA. – The Wesleyan men's track and field team was back in action this weekend, taking another trip to the Track at New Balance for the New England Division III Indoor Championships where Ethan Singleton '28 continued his program dominance in the 400m while Steve Paul '28 broke a 13-year school record in the 200m.

It was another record weekend for Singleton, breaking down the men's indoor 400m record for a third time this season. Singleton's performance this weekend earned him 12th place as he crossed the finish line with a record 48.83 time. Singleton first broke the record back in December, running a 49.44. Breaking his own record just two months later, Singleton smashed his time by a second with a 48.99. Prior to the race, Singleton placed 20th in the 200m, clocking a 22.24.

The program record in the indoor 200m fell to Paul after a 13-year hiatus. Paul's 21.81 time earned him seventh place as he bested LaDarius Drew's '15 22.08 set in 2012.

The top individual placement of the weekend went to Liam Calhoun '26 with a fifth-place finish in the men's mile. Calhoun, who has consistently dominated the distance races, ran a 4:13.16.

Nate Fogarty '25 raced a Top 20 time in the 800, finishing with a 1:56.36 for 16th place. Running a 8:36.49, Noah Mahoney '27 placed 12th in the 3000m

Mahoney, Singleton, Fogarty, and Calhoun combined for the men's distance relay and brought home a fourth-place finish for the Cardinals, rallying to a 10:10.16 clocked finish. In the 4x800 relay, Luke Consolati '25, Thomas Chun '28, Coleman Love '28, and Alex Lara '27 crossed at 8:07.26 and placed 15th.

Top 10's in the field competition went to Javier Orellana '25 and Will Dollhopf '25. Orellana, the Cardinals' top competitor in the shot put, threw for 14.37m and placed 10th. Dollhopf hit his mark at 15.59m and finished 10th as well.

The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, March 8, when they head to Tufts for the national qualifying meet.
