Four First Place Finishes for Men’s Track & Field to Open Outdoor Season at Home

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan men's track & field team opened the 2025 outdoor campaign with four first place finishes at the J. Elmer Swanson Spring Classic hosted at the Andersen Track Complex on Saturday. Steve Paul '28 was a two-time winner on the day, as the first-year claimed first place in both the 100m and 200m events. Paul clocked in at 10.85 seconds in the 100m to take first place out of 54 competitors by 0.10 seconds. He added another first place result, clocking in at 21.83 seconds, finishing head of the runner-up by just 0.02 seconds, to claim the win in a field of 70 sprinters.
 
The distance runners claimed the other two first place results as Nate Fogarty '25 placed first in the 1500m while Noah Mahoney '27 topped the field in the 3000m. Fogarty led a group of 50 runners in the 1500m with a 4:07.47 while Mahoney crossed the line first in the 3000m, leading a strong contingent of Cardinals runners in the event with his time of 8:41.64.
 
The 3000m was littered with Cardinals as Wesleyan had eight runners finish Top 10 while 10 of the top 12 runners in the field were Cardinals. Dylan Cote '28 was runner-up to Mahoney (8:48.45) while Will Wise '26 took third (8:50.79) and Zach Allen '27 placed fourth (8:52.69). Rounding out the Top 10 was Bruce Lenes '26 in seventh place (8:59.88), Ben McKinney '27 took eighth (9:03.16), Evan O'Rourke '26 crossed the line in ninth (9:10.38), and Philip Keith '25 was 10th-fastest (9:11.09).
 
A similar story played out in the 1500m as Fogarty saw three more Cardinals join him with Top 10 finishes in the event. George Lepska' 25 clocked in at 4:10.96 to place third while Alex Lara '27 was fourth-best in the field at 4:11.55. Luke Consolati '25 finished ninth (4:14.49) while Daniel Manning '28 just missed a Top 10 result as he placed 11th with a time of 4:14.88).
 
Hyatt Hicks '28 rounded out the Top 10 finishers for the Cardinals in track events, as the first-year placed 10th in the 800m with a time of 2:09.63. Patrick Schechtman-Taylor '26 placed 14th in the 100m (11.52 seconds) and 22nd in the 200m (23.37). Neil Bulchandani '28 finished in 17th place in the 100m (11.54) and 19th in the 200m (23.33).
 
The field events saw Javier Orellana '25 place fourth in the shot put at 14.16m while Rami Hayes-Messinger '26 finished seventh in the same event at 12.98m and also took eighth in the javelin at 50.16m. The discus saw Eli Liedtka '27 place ninth at 38.06m, Ethan Dangle '28 took 10th place (37.56m) and Elias Warner '28 finished in 11th place (37.45m).
 
Wesleyan hits the road for their next meet which is the Tufts Snowflake Classic held in Medford on March 29 starting at 9 AM.
