Box Score 2 MIDDLETOWN, Conn. –
Isabella Secaira-Cotto '25 ripped a two-out, RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning for the Wesleyan softball team as the Cardinals earned a 1-0 walk-off win in game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader against Bates. That win came following a 5-2 win in eight innings for the Bobcats as the two sides split the Saturday doubleheader from the Wesleyan Softball Field.
Â
Bates struck first in the 1
st inning as Isabel Bettencourt lofted a sacrifice fly to score Emma Yen but the Cardinals responded in the bottom half when
Molly Lennon '26 hit a leadoff home run to knot the score at 1-1.
Â
The score remained 1-1 until the 5
th inning after Secaira-Cotto tripled, driving in
Rebecca Cassel-Siskind '26 all the way from first. Bates answered right back in the top of the 6
th when Sienna Pietrasiewicz evened the scored at 2-2 with an RBI single.
Â
Extra innings were needed to determine a victory as Bates scored three in the decisive 8
th inning, with consecutive doubles from Zariya Anderson and Delaney Rankin putting the Bobcats ahead. Delaney Rankin then helped her own cause with a two-run double to spot herself a three-run lead, which proved more than enough as she finished with a scoreless eighth inning for the 5-2 win.
Â
Secaira-Cotto, Cassel-Siskind, and
Abby Orso G'25 each finished with two hits while
Cat Palmer '26 worked two walks. Orso got the start in the circle and went 5.1 innings allowing three hits and three walks with three strikeouts. Secaira-Cotto suffered the loss with 2.2 innings of relief, allowing three runs on five hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
Â
Game two was a pitcher's duel as
Jacelyn Lees '28 and Brigid Gaffny didn't allow a run across the first six innings. Wesleyan left at least one runner on-base in five of the first six innings, while Lees stranded two Bobcat baserunners in the 4
th inning and left a Bobcat on third base in the 3
rd inning, getting a foul out to first base to end the inning.
Â
After Lees worked a perfect 1-2-3 7
th inning, Orso pinch hit to start the bottom half and reached on a single. After a Lennon groundout to the circle moved Orso to second base, Cassel-Siskind flied out to right field, setting the stage for Secaira-Cotto who came through with a game-winning, walk-off RBI single back up the middle to plate Orso from second base and account for the only run in a 1-0 triumph for Wesleyan.
Â
Lees was outstanding once again as the first-year tossed her second straight complete game shutout, allowing four hits and one walk with seven strikeouts. Lees has allowed just one earned run in 42.1 innings this season and has thrown 20 consecutive shutout innings.
Â
Secaira-Cotto had two more hits in game two, as the senior finished 4-for-8 with 2 RBI on the day. Palmer went 2-for-3 as she reached base safely four times in the two games combined.
Â
With Sunday's doubleheader at Hamilton postponed, Wesleyan is back in action on Thursday with a home doubleheader against WestConn starting at 3 PM from the Wesleyan Softball Field.
