POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Wesleyan women's golf team opened the spring season with a resounding performance at Vassar as the Cardinals carded a 317 on Sunday to take second place at the Vassar Invitational II.
Mia Holbrook '27 was stellar all weekend, finishing as the runner-up on Saturday before finishing in a tie for first place in Sunday's round.
Competing against a six-team field that featured Babson, Ithaca, Wellesley, Vassar, and Nichols, the Cardinals managed a 317 on Sunday to finish in second place and just six strokes behind Babson who took the victory. In Saturday's round, Wesleyan finished with a 337 as a team and placed fourth overall.
The individual standout on the weekend was Holbrook as the sophomore turned in a 78 on Saturday and a 76 on Sunday, which was good enough for a tie for first place. Holbrook totaled three birdies in her Sunday round while she had six pars on the back nine as she finished +4 in the Vassar Invitational II. In Saturday's round at the Vassar Invitational I, Holbrook carded a +6 (78) which included an eagle on the par-5 5
th hole while she had 10 pars in her first round.
Kayla Howell '26 and
Amanda Phillips '28 helped lift the team to a second place showing on Sunday as the pair both finished in a tie for third place in the overall player leaderboard in a field of 34 golfers. Howell and Phillips both shot +6 (78) on Sunday with Howell racking up two birdies on par 5's while Phillips led the team with 11 pars on Sunday, while she had birdies on holes 1 and 18.
Rounding out the field was
Rosie Leonard '26 who shot an 85 (+13) on Sunday while
Rebecca Roegner '28 shot 89 (+17).
Jacqueline Neishabouri '25 competed as an individual and shot 88 (+16) in her Sunday round.
Saturday's Vassar Invitational I round saw Roegner land a Top 10 finish as the first-year shot 81 (+9) with one birdie.
Wesleyan is back in action on April 12-13 with a trip to the Orchards Golf Club in South Hadley, Massachusetts for the Jack Leaman Invitational hosted by Amherst.
