MIDDLETOWN CT. – Rebounding from a loss on Saturday afternoon, the Wesleyan men's tennis team corrected course and closed their home opening weekend with a 6-1 NESCAC victory over Colby College on Sunday afternoon from the Bacon Field House.
The Mules' lineup for doubles play was no match for the Cardinals in a 3-0 sweep, opening the morning with an early Cardinals lead.
Max Lustgarten '25 and
Max Litton '26 ran away with the first defeat at No. 2, defeating Marco Ziets-Segura and Aidan Kwong, 6-1.
Harry Collomb '26 and
JT Bilski '26 came in clutch with a 6-3 win over Jake Cohen and Jason Daly as the top pairing. Picking a second 6-3 win at No. 3,
Brett Keeling '27 and
Chase Kasday '26 beat Josh Kaplan and Diego Sosa.
Picking up the first singles point of the morning, Litton went head-to-head with Ziets-Segura at No. 4 and went 6-1, 7-5 to put the Mules down by two. Following Litton, Lustgarten allowed little wiggle room for Sosa at No. 3, going 6-3, 6-3.
Facing Cohen for a second time at No. 1, Bilski dug deep for his first win of the regular season, defeating Cohen in a 6-4, 7-5 final score.
Playing in his first match since March of 2024,
Tai MacDonald '26 entered the Cardinals' lineup at No. 6. Facing Kwong in a heavy hitting matchup, MacDonald closed out a 6-2, 6-2 defeat for his first win of the season.
Kasday played out the longest match of the afternoon in the No. 5, facing Kaplan in a third set tiebreaker. Kasday walked to a 6-3 set one, but Kaplan was not going out without at least one set of his own. Forced to rally back a tied match, Kasday ran for 10 and was victorious with a 6-3, 4-6, 10-0 final.
The Cardinals return to action on Wednesday, March 12, when they host Stevens at 3 p.m.
