NEW LONDON, CT. - In a weekend celebrated with commanding performances, the Wesleyan men's track and field team dominated the Silfen Invitational, hosted by Connecticut College, on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon, highlighted by
Alex Kermath's '26 first-place finish in the 1500m as 30 placed in the Top 10.
The Cardinals gave up little room for the remaining field runners in the distance events, 14 of the 30 finishes within the Top 10 were gathered in the 1500m, 5000m, 10,000m, and the 3000m steeplechase. Kermath was the top contender in the men's 1500m, winning the race with a clocked time of 4:16.61.
Luke Consolati '25 (4:18.49) placed second,
Alex Lara '27 (4:19.76) was third,
Ben McKinney '27 (4:20.38) finished fourth, and
Dylan Arluk '27 (4:28.21) closed the event in sixth place.
Placing in the 1500m Elite race,
Rob D'Aquila '26 placed fourth and crossed the line at 3:59.95.
Coleman Love '28 was the top qualifier for the Cardinals in the 5000m, leading a pack of four in the race. Love placed second, running a 15:55.14 final.
Calder Burke '27 (16:06.75) closed in at fifth,
David Rochon '28 (16:11.54) was seventh, and
Evan O'Rourke '26 (16:12.28) finished in ninth place.
Featuring in the 5000m Elite,
Noah Mahoney '27 crossed in fourth place, running a 14:48.63. Following Mahoney in fifth place was
Liam Calhoun '26, clocking a final time of 14:49.63.
In the 10,000m,
Philip Keith '25 was the lone Cardinal to earn a top finish as he completed his race in fourth place at 31:33.42. Finishing strong with a 10:08.28,
Thomas Chun '28 placed ninth in the 3000m steeplechase.
Steve Paul '28 found himself as the runner-up in the 200m, timing a 21.97 sprint.
Patrick Schechtman-Taylor '26 placed 10
th, rounding out the Top 10 with a 23.17. Anthony Aririguzoh '27 ran a 52.87 in the 400m, placing fourth.
Two Cardinals placed in the 800m Elite,
George Lepska '25 ran a 1:56.10 for fourth place with
Nate Fogarty '25 filling in behind him in fifth place, running a 1:56.50.
Ben Taffet '26 ran the standard 800m race, coming in at third with a 2:02.86 final.
The Cardinals fielded two relay teams, the 4x400 team of Paul, Aririguzoh, Schechtman-Taylor, and
Ethan Singleton '28 took the top spot, combining for a 3:30.92 finish. The 4x100 team made up of Singleton, Paul, Schechtman-Taylor and
Neil Bulchandani '28 placed third, finishing over the line at 44.01.
Javier Orellana '25 was back to business as usual, placing second in the shot put as he threw for 14.16m. Placing top five in discus,
Eli Liedtka '27 finished fifth with a final distance of 40.36. Placing seventh in the long jump,
Josh Ng '27 hit a depth of 5.91m.
Will Dollhopf '25 led the way in the hammer throw, hitting 44.88m to place fourth. In fifth,
James Giokaris '24 finished at 44.35m. Ninth place went to
Rami Hayes-Messinger '26 at 41.91m.
Placing fourth in the javelin throw, Giokaris threw for 46.01m while
Elias Warner '28 was ninth with a 40.88m final.
The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, April 19, when they compete in the Trinity Invitational.
