HARTFORD, CT. – As the Wesleyan men's track and field team placed fifth out of a field of 12 collegiate institutions at the Trinity Invitational, freshman
Steve Paul '28 broke the men's outdoor record in the 200m as Wesleyan picked up 18 Top 10 finishes, dominating the 1500m.
Paul, who is the current record holder in the men's indoor 200m, placed sixth in the race while running a record 21.56 final time. Paul breaks LaDarius Drew's previous 21.73 set in 2012. Prior to the men's 200m, Paul ran the 100m, crossing the line at 10.71 to place third.
The Cardinals took up half of the Top 10 finishes in the 1500m as the pack was led by freshman
Dylan Cote. Cote placed third, running 3:57.06. Falling behind Cote in fourth place was
Bruce Lenes '26 , clocking a 3:57.84.
Liam Calhoun '26 ran a 3:57.43 for seventh place. Placing eighth,
Zach Allen '27 ran a 3:59.47. Rounding out the Top 10,
Alex Kermath '26 finished at 4:00.56.
George Lepska '25 led the way in a three-man finish in the 800m. Lepska also took third, running a 1:52.88.
Nate Fogarty '25 finished at 1:54.36 for sixth, while
Rob D'Aquila '26 finished in seventh with a final time of 1:54.68.
The field events saw the Cardinals close out the day with two second-place finishes, beginning with Javier Orelanna '25 in the shot put. Orelanna threw for 14.20m, continuing a season of consistency for the senior.
Eli Liedtka '27 was the top contender in the discus throw, finishing at a distance of 42.56m.
Behind Liedtka, Ethan Dangle '28 placed sixth with a distance of 39.90.
Elias Warner '28 placed eighth, going for 38.77m.
Featuring in the hammer throw,
Will Dollhopf '25 finished in seventh at 45.34m while
James Giokaris '24 placed eighth at 43.95m.
Rami Hayes-Messinger '26 placed ninth in the javelin throw, closing in on 48.05m. At 12.21m,
Daniel Bench '27 also placed ninth in the triple jump.
The Cardinals will take the week to prepare of the NESCAC Championships on Saturday, April 26, with action beginning at 9 a.m. at home.
