Durkin, Soloveychik, and Youngberg to Compete in NCAA Individual Championship

MIDDLETOWN, CT. – Following the program's sixth trip to the NESCAC Finals and a 10th appearance in the NCAA Tournament, Lane Durkin '27, Jackie Soloveychik '27, and Sarah Youngberg '26 of the Wesleyan women's tennis team are set to compete in the NCAA Individual Championships in Claremont, CA., beginning May 24 at the Biszants Family Tennis Center at the conclusion of the team tournament, as announced by the NCAA on Wednesday.

The Cardinals, 18-8 in all-time NCAA Tournament action, currently hold a standing 18-3 season record following the conclusion of the NESCAC Championship in which they reached the finals for a sixth time but fell to Middlebury in a 4-1 final. The Cardinals await the result of the Scranton-Stevens matchup within their bracket as the team received a first round bye.

Durkin will be making her first individual championship appearance as the anchor of the Cardinals' lineup this season. Undefeated at 21-0, Durkin is as consistent as they come. Already seated amongst the top Cardinals' single-season records, Durkin enters the tournament ranked sixth in the nation. Durkin was named a 2025 All-NESCAC First Team Singles honoree on May 7.

Wins for Durkin came against 12 nationally ranked teams and five ranked singles opponents. Sitting at #21, Elsie Van Weiran of Middlebury has suffered losses to Durkin twice this season, once during the regular season meeting between the programs and the NESCAC Finals matchup.

Leading off the Cardinals' lineup at No. 1, Soloveychik will also be making her first appearance in individual play. Ranked second in the nation, Soloveychik boasts a 25-5 overall record as she ran a 15-5 campaign during the regular season and conference championships.

Named an All-NESCAC First Team Singles selection this season, Soloveychik has already faced several of her fellow top-ranked opponents in head-to-head competition. In the March 23 matchup with NYU, Soloveychik took #12 Jimena Menendez to three sets after sitting at a disadvantage after set one, ultimately winning two in a row to defeat Menendez.

Five-time All-NESCAC selection Youngberg will join teammate and doubles partner Durkin in the doubles portion of the tournament as the duo ranks seventh out of the 25 recognized teams in the country. Youngberg, a Second Team Singles honoree this season, enters the tournament with veteran experience. Youngberg previously competed in the 2024 NCAA Individual Championship in both the singles and doubles bracket with Caitlyn Ferrante '24.

Youngberg and Durkin led the Cardinals through the best of three doubles action this season, concluding the regular season and NESCAC Championship play with a sitting 16-5 overall record. Within the NESCAC, Youngberg and Durkin went 9-1, falling only to Middlebury. The pair earned All-NESCAC First Team Doubles accolades.
