Freshmen Lead Cardinals in 2-2 Draw with Hamilton

MIDDLETOWN, CT. – Leading the offensive charge in the first NESCAC outing of the season, freshmen Ford Cash and Wyatt Sprenkle put away two goals for the Wesleyan men's soccer team on Saturday afternoon in a 2-2 draw with Hamilton College to pick up a team point from Wesleyan's Jackson Field.

The Cardinals caught an early lead and held an edge for much of the match, opening the scoring with a goal off the foot of Ford Cash. Scoring his first career goal as a Cardinal, Cash struck with just under 10 minutes of game clock played. Joshwin Jennings '27, earning the assist on Cash's goal, drilled the initial shot on Continentals goalkeeper Peter Montesano Scheibe from direct center.
Montesano Scheibe made the dive and saved Jennings' shot from the tips of his gloves, but Cash from out left capitalized on the rebound and lifted the ball over Montesano Schiebe.

Equaling out to 14 total shots per team, the game pace previously held by the Cardinals picked up with chippier play. With 10 minutes remaining in the half, Sprenkle gave the Cardinals a two-goal lead. With the Cardinals charging down the field, Aiden Londergan '27 made a high pass from the midfield for Jacon Schindler fighting down in the corner. Driving the ball through the box, Schindler's cross pass to Sprenkle was shot from center and landed in the right corner.

The second half saw the Continentals cut the score in half on a throw in at 58 minutes. Bennett Hauck with the throw connected with Brady Hyland's head, the ball landing at the feet of Patrick Ferrare. Ferrare's ball slipped between Mathis Blanc '26 and the left post. The game-tying goal, also scored by Ferrare, was a penalty kick goal with two minutes remaining.

In goal, Blanc finished the afternoon with six saves. Montesano Scheibe made four saves.

The Cardinals return to action on Tuesday, Sept 16, when they host Brandeis beginning at 7:30 p.m.
