Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Buehler and the Cardinals Run Down Springfield in 6-0 Stunner

MIDDLETOWN, CT. – Following a frenzied stampede of goals on Tuesday night, the Wesleyan women's soccer team reigned victorious over Springfield College in a 6-0 shut out that was led by Riley Buehler's '26 four-point night from Smith Field.

Relegating very little time in their own defensive end, the Cardinals (4-0-1 overall) struck with just under 15 minutes of play wiped from the clock. The first goal of the evening against the Pride (0-4-0) went to Maria Utz '27, the Cardinals' leading goal scorer from the top of the goal box.

Buehler's first of the game came in the 20th minute, falling over the goal line from Buehler's position centered above Mallory Forgatch as Utz made the pass inside from out left. The Cardinals would enter the half with a three-goal lead, scoring a third goal at 33 minutes from Lola Tirabassi '28, her first as a Cardinal. Tirabassi drilled a shot from the left-hand side from Kaitlyn Connors '29. The Cardinals' defensive unit did not allow a single shot by the Pride outshooting at a 17-0 margin.

Opening the second half, Buehler put away her second goal at the 70-minute mark at the top left corner of the goal box from Beatrix Delaney '27, her second assist of the match. Seven minutes later, Brooke Goodwin '27 brought the tally to five goals, sailing a heavy shot from out above the penalty arc, assisted by Meghan Noe '27.

The sixth and final goal went unassisted to Emma Gower '29 in the 82nd minute. Gower capitalized on a rebounded save made by Mairead Marsden in goal and shot on the line.
Allowing just three shots total by the Pride, the Cardinals finished with a 28-3 differential.

In goal, Hansard and Maggie di Rienzo '29 combined for a save a piece. Forgatch and Marsden made seven.

The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Sept. 20, when they travel to Bates for an 11 a.m. NESCAC kick off.
