MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Wesleyan women's golf team opened the 2025-26 season with a seventh place finish out of 12 teams at the George Phinney Golf Classic hosted by Middlebury College over the weekend. The Cardinals shot 324-327-651 in the two rounds while Amherst won the event with a two-day stroke total of 622.
Coming off a rookie season wherein she became the first Cardinal golfer to compete at the NCAA Division III Championships,
Amanda Phillips '28 opened her sophomore year in a four-way tie for fourth place finish out of 69 golfers on the player leaderboard. Phillips shot 77 (+6) on Saturday and followed with an 80 (+9) on Sunday to finish with a 157 across the two days. She really shined over a 10-hole stretch on Saturday, shooting -2 with two birdies and eight pars on holes 1-10.
A pair of first-years, making their debut in the red and black, followed for Wesleyan as
Mia Rodgers '29 finished in a tie for 25
th place while
Grace Wu '29 tied for 31
st place. Rodgers opened with a 79 (+8) on Saturday before shooting 84 (+13) on Sunday, finishing at +21 while recording 10 pars in her opening round. Wu went 82-83-165 (+23) for the weekend, totaling nine pars on Saturday and her first career birdie on Sunday.
Mia Holbrook '27 bounced back from an opening round 86 (+15) to shoot 80 (+9) on Sunday in a round that saw her pile up 11 pars and one birdie. Holbrook sat in a tie for 33
rd place on the player leaderboard.
Mia Bardinelli '26 returned to the lineup and shaved seven strokes off her opening round, shooting 92-85-177 for the weekend.
Kayla Howell '26 competed as an individual and placed 39
th overall with an 87-81-168, totaling four birdies across the two rounds which was the most of any player on the team.
The Cardinals are back in action next weekend at the Williams Invite on Sept. 27-28 at the Taconic Golf Club.
