MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Competing for the second time in three days, the Wesleyan women's swimming & diving team secured a Saturday sweep over Wheaton and Bridgeport. Exact team scores cannot be confirmed at the time of this release but the two wins for the Cardinals are both secured as Wesleyan improves to 4-4 on the season.
Wesleyan secured first place finishes in eight of the 13 events on Saturday with
Ella Hall '28 sweeping the diving competitions and
James LaCroix '27 and
Mia Dezelic '27 factoring in three first place finishes (400 medley, 100 free, 400 free relay). Other Cardinals who won an individual event and combined for a relay win included
Zoe Kuhn '26 and
Sara Bohacek '26 while
Anne Conway '26 helped the Cardinals win both relay events.
- Wesleyan opened with a dominant showing in the 400 medley, as Dezelic, Bohacek, Conway, and LaCroix clocked in at 4:02.14 to best the rest of the competition by more than three seconds.
- Kuhn captured a win in the 200 free, touching the wall in 2:01.66 to best the runner-up by more than one second.
- Hall won the 1-meter dive with a score of 216.37 then secured another first place finish with a 232.57 in the 3-meter.
- LaCroix landed a close win over teammate Kuhn in the 100 free with a time of 54.44 seconds, compared to 54.59 seconds for Kuhn.
- The Cardinals dominated the 200 back with the top three finishers in the event. Dezelic placed first at 2:10.31 while Keira Walsh '28 was runner-up (2:14.15) and Charlotte Fishman '29 placed third (2:19.60).
- Bohacek landed a win in the 200 breast in a close finish that saw her time of 2:32.20 finish just ahead of second place (2:32.48) by 0.28 seconds.
- The meet concluded with the 400 free relay as LaCroix, Conway, Dezelic, and Kuhn combined for a time of 3:41.52 that was ahead of the rest of the field by nearly six seconds.
- Several runner-up finishers on the day included Meghan Jo '29 in the 1000 free (11:07.51), Conway in the 50 free (25.46), Bohacek in the 200 IM (2:15.96), Allie Woo '29 in the 200 fly (2:16.15),
Wesleyan has a week to prepare for another home meet as the Cardinals play host to Colby next Saturday at 1 PM.
