Men’s Golf Wins RIC Spring Invitational, Fisher Hirsch Ties for Second

Cardinals win their first tournament since the 2022 season

WARWICK, R.I. – The Wesleyan men's golf team captured a win at the Rhode Island College Spring Invitational hosted on Friday and Saturday at the Valley Country Club. The Cardinals shot +21 as a team, winning the tournament by three strokes over the runner-up Suffolk, while Fisher Hirsch '26 tied for second place on the player leaderboard. A milestone weekend for the program, this marks Wesleyan's first victory since the Mitchell Invitational back in the fall of 2022 and the second tournament win for the team since 2008. In addition, this marks the second time the Cardinals have won a tournament with five or more teams competing since 2001.

Hirsch impressed all throughout the weekend, recording four birdies and 27 pars with just five holes scoring bogey or worse in the 36-hole tournament. Hirsch carded a pair of +1 rounds of 73 to finish +2 overall and in a tie with three others for second place on the player leaderboard. Hirsch had a streak of 15 straight holes with a par starting on the 10th hole in round 1 all the way through the 6th hole in round 2 on Saturday.

Gavin Sendar '28 was next to finish for the Cardinals, shooting 74-73 (+3) to finish in sole possession of sixth place out of 45 golfers. Sendar had a team-high eight birdies including five in round 2 and three in a seven-hole stretch on Saturday.

Johnathan Harlukowicz '27 went 74-78 (+8) for the weekend to finish in a tie for 10th place overall. He started with an even par performance on the front 9 on Friday, finishing his opening round with three birdies. Harlukowicz added two more birdies on Saturday to complete his tournament.

Jackson Hayes '27 finished tied for 14th with a 77-77 (+10). Hayes showed well on the front 9 on both Friday and Saturday, shooting +1 with six pars in round 1 while he went -1 with eight pars and one birdie in round 2. Hayes finished the tournament with 12 pars on Friday and 10 on Saturday.

Rounding out the field was Zach Liu '26 who shaved three strokes off his totals between round 1 and round 2. Liu opened with a 79 and finished with a 76 to go +11 for the tournament. The senior had three birdies in each of his rounds and shot -1 over the back 9 on round 2 with two birdies and six pars.

Wesleyan is back in action on Tuesday, April 21 for the Little Three Championship at the Orchards Golf Club in South Hadley, Massachusetts, hosted by Amherst.
