Men’s Track and Field Opens Season with Win Over Connecticut College

MIDDLETOWN, CT- Bacon Field House was the venue for first track and field meet for the Wesleyan Cardinals since February 1st of 2020. Nearly two years later, the facility set host to an indoor track meet between the Cardinals and the Connecticut College Camels. Wesleyan put together a stellar opening night, defeating the Camels by a score of 74-29. The Cardinals won nine different events, with seven different individuals winning along with the 4 x 400 relay team. A strong overall performance in their return to Bacon Field House.
 
HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Christian Denny '22 had an impressive outing in the opener, placing first in both the 60 meters (7.03) and 200 meters (22.92)
  • Sam Musto '24 finished first in the 400 meters with a time of 51.28, which was nearly two full seconds faster than second place. Three Cardinals finished right behind him in Emmett Perry '25 (53.14), Aaron Foote '24 (53.33), and Luke Consolati '25 (54.96)
  • For the Mile, Wesleyan had two scorers in 2nd place finisher George Lepska '25 (4:34.96) and 3rd place finisher Jasper Shapiro '23 (4:36.81)
  • In the 3000m, Owen Rogers '24 ran away with it clocking in with a time of 8:55.05 to take first place. He was followed by two more Cardinals in Will Ratner '22 (9:08.30) and Philip Keith '25 (9:10.32)
  • Nick Carulli '22 won the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.11 which was right ahead of Mason Martell's '24 time of 9.16
  • Wesleyan impressed in the throwing events, with Javier Orellana '25 taking 1st in his first ever meet in the shot put with a distance of 12.86m. Connell Oberman '22 finished 2nd throwing 10.24m. They swapped in the weight throw, with Oberman coming in first (12.98m) and Orellana finishing second (9.68m)
  • Noah Olsen '22 placed first in the high jump (1.9m), finishing in front of teammate Andrew Dearborn '22 (1.85m)
  • The 4 x 400 relay team of Andre Collins '25, Perry, Foote, and Nigel Hayes '23 came in first with a time of 3:38.97
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
Wesleyan will have over a month off before they compete again on January 15th in the Little Three Championships back at Bacon Field House.
