Men’s Track & Field Hosts Little 3 Championships

Cardinals claim five first place finishes on the day

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan men's track & field team earned five first place finishes at the Little 3 Championships on Saturday afternoon from the Bacon Field House. With rosters depleted by COVID-19 protocols on all fronts, there was no team scoring at the meet and no Little Three champion will be crowned this season for the second year in a row.

Christian Denny '22 played a large role in the Cardinals' success as he earned wins in both the 60m and 200m. He opened with a convincing win in the 60m, clocking in at 7.06 seconds (just 0.03 off a personal-best) to beat runner-up finisher Jacob Cohen (Williams) by 0.12 seconds. Denny followed that up with a victory in the 200m, crossing the line in 23.26 seconds.

George Lepska '25 impressed in his first career Little 3 appearance, earning a win in the 800m with a strong time of 1:58.31, legging out Amherst's Wilson Spurrell by just over half a second.

Noah Olsen '22 earned a first place result in the long jump at the Little 3 Champioships for the second straight season, posting 6.37m to take the top spot two years after earning first place in the 2020 Championships. Olsen was also third-best in the high jump, posting 1.88m which is just 0.02m off his personal-best.

The Cardinals dominated the shot put, seeing Nick Helbig '23 and Javier Orellana '25 finish first and second, respectively. Helbig posted 13.11m to take first place while Orellana threw 12.85m to finish runner-up.

In the weight throw, Connell Oberman '22 was runner-up with a personal-best toss of 13.43m while Helbig claimed third place with a mark of 13.04m.

Wesleyan's 4x400m relay group of Will Ruden-Sella '25, Luke Consolati '25, Griffin Maristany '22 and Nigel Hayes '23 put forth a good effort to take second place out of four groups with a time of 3:38.66.

Miles Aronow '22 took third place in his first career 1000m appearance with a time of 2:39.72. Nick Carulli '22 showed well in the long jump, earning third place with a jump of 6.29m.

Wesleyan hits the road for the first time this season on Friday with a trip to the Ocean Breeze Invite on Staten Island on Friday, January 21.
