Middle-Distance Runners Lead Men’s Track & Field at NYC Gotham Cup

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Several middle to long distance runners highlighted the day for Wesleyan men's track & field as the Cardinals took part in the NYC Gotham Cup on Friday afternoon from the Ocean Breeze Complex. Wesleyan posted two Top 5 finishes and four Top 10 results throughout the day in a meet that featured competition from a bevy of programs including a few NCAA Div. I teams.

Wesleyan's distance medley relay (DMR) team posted one of the more impressive performances as Miles Aronow '22, Luke Consolati '25, George Lepska '25 and Dale Ross '22 combined to place second – behind only Stony Brook out of the America East – with a time of 10:56.37.

Lepska continued a stellar freshman season out on the track with a third place finish out of 38 runners in the 1000m. He posted a mark of 2:32.26 which edged the fourth place finisher by just 0.14 seconds. Through three meet appearances, Lepska has finished third or better in all all five of his combined relay and individual performances this season.

Nate Fogarty '25 continues his strong freshman season with a 2:00.78 time in the 800m to place eighth overall out of 38 competitors. His time this afternoon was nearly four seconds faster than his time in the same event at the Little 3 Championship last weekend.

The final Top 10 finisher on the day was Will Ratner '22 as he crossed the line in 8:56.97 to take 10th place and also set a new personal-best in the 3k.

Both Nick Helbig '23 and Connell Oberman '22 showed well in the weight throw as Helbig posted a personal-best 13.50m to take 15th place out of 39 competitors while Oberman tossed 13.38m, which is just 0.05m off his personal-best, to claim 17th place.

Christian Denny '22 continued his strong start to the season with a 17th place finish out of 64 sprinters in the 60m dash as the Cardinal senior clocked in at 7.10 seconds (0.07 seconds off his personal-best).

Will Ruden-Sella '25 shaved more than two full seconds off his previous season-best in the 400m, crossing the line in 52.65 seconds to take 27th place and finish in the upper half of the participation list that included 56 competitors.

Dale Ross '22 posted a personal-best time of 4:30.38 in the one mile, good enough for 26th place out of 50 runners.

Wesleyan is back in action at home next weekend with the Wesleyan Indoor Invite set for Saturday, January 29 starting at 10 AM from the Bacon Field House.
