MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan women's squash team continues to roll as postseason play inches closer as the Cardinals defeated Georgetown, 6-3, at home on Sunday afternoon. Wesleyan (6-4) has won five of their last six matches while improving to 3-1 at home this season. Georgetown (7-7) suffered their fourth defeat in the last six matches.
- Four of the six Wesleyan points came on 3-0 sweeps
- This was the first-ever meeting between the two programs
- Marangela James '24 used a dominating 11-2 first set win at #4 to help close out a 3-0 sweep of Sarah Conner with 13-11, 11-8 set wins that followed
- Anika Kewalramani '24 won a thriller at #3 as the sophomore dropped the opening set 12-10 before rallying with 11-8, 11-7, 12-10 victories over the ensuing three straight sets to win 3-1
- Sydney Smith '25 battled to a 15-13 win in the second set which gave her the momentum that carried her into a 11-4 third set win that closed out a 3-0 sweep at #6 over Nine Flinn
- Annie Roach '22 continued her stellar season, moving to 6-3 overall and 3-0 at #7 with a 3-1 win (11-8, 6-11, 11-9, 11-3) over Minna Holleck
- The lower portion of the Cardinal lineup continued to dominate as Aashni Parikh '22 rolled to a 3-0 win (11-2, 11-2, 11-5) at #8 as she moved to 6-0 overall on the season
- Sydney Kim '22 dropped just eight total points in her match at #9 as she easily defeated Catherine Friendly 11-2, 11-1, 11-5
- Laila Kewalramani battled to the end at #1 against Nina Thomas but fell just shy as she lost by a 3-2 decision (1-11, 9-11, 11-6, 11-9, 10-12)
Wesleyan finishes up the regular season next Wednesday, February 9 with a 6:30 PM match at home against Brown.
