MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – In the final competition of 2022, the Wesleyan women's swimming & diving team hosted a quad meet against No. 4 ranked Williams, No. 7 Tufts and WPI on Saturday.
The Cardinals claimed their first victory of the season in a 165-154 triumph over WPI but fell to the Jumbos (270-50) and Ephs (262-57), moving to 1-5 on the season.
Sarah Schou '23 had a busy day for the Cardinals, clocking in with the team's fastest time in three events including the 50 fly, 50 back, and 100 free, while she also helped lead the Cardinals to an eighth place finish in the 200 free relay. She timed in at 26.65 seconds to take 11
th place out of 33 in the 50 fly, took seventh in the 50 back with a time of 28.02, and later placed 11
th out of 27 in the 100 free with a time of 53.93.
Wesleyan closed out the day with an eighth place out of 21 squads in the 200 free relay, as Schou combined with
Izzy Paez '26,
Bella Kellner '24, and
Izzy Pennington '24 to clock in at 1:39.30.
Among the other strong performers in the pool came from
Ellie Immel '26 who placed seventh out of 12 in the 500 free with a time of 5:35.57. Pennington posted a time of 25.00 seconds in the 50 free that was good enough for ninth place. Anne Conway '26 posted a sixth place result in the 100 fly with her time of 1:00.15.
Zoe Kuhn '26 landed an 11
th place showing in the 200 free, touching the wall in 1:57.54.
On the diving board,
Zane Paglia '23 led the Cardinal contingent with a pair of strong showings as the senior captain placed fifth in the 1-meter with a score of 200.45 while she later claimed sixth place in the 3-meter with a score of 190.70.
Wesleyan heads into winter break with their next competition slated for Wednesday, January 4 as the Cardinals welcome Hamilton in for a 4:00 PM start from the Webster Family Natatorium.
