MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan women's squash team put together a thorough outing on Wednesday night as the Cardinals made quick work of Conn. College in a 9-0 victory from the Rosenbaum Squash Center. Wesleyan jumps to 2-5, earning their second straight win, while the Camels are now 1-6 on the season.
The Cardinals earned 3-0 sweeps in all but one match, with steady performances coming up and down the lineup.
Portia Pliam '25 played a 12-minute match, defeating Karen Escalera 11-4, 11-3, 11-3 at #4 to set the tone for the evening.
Marangela James '25 dropped just eight total points in a 11-2, 11-1, 11-5 win over Kmberly Lucero at #9.
Laila Kewalramani '24 allowed Crystal Dixon to win just nine points in her win at #6: 11-2, 11-4, 11-3.
Leandra Sze '26 defeated Angela Cao at #7 by a score of 11-6, 11-1, 11-4 while
Jaclyn Dichter '26 at #5,
Aanya Anand '26 at #3, and
Mira Bakshi '26 at #2 all won in convincing manner.
Julissa Mota '26 was challenged by Caroline Champa at #8 but the first-year Cardinal prevailed 11-7, 11-7, 11-9 in a clean sweep.
The lone Camel to take a set off the Cardinals on the night came at #1 as
Avika Pande '26 dropped the first set 12-10 to Rachel Matamoros but rebounded with three straight victories 11-6, 11-9, 11-8 to seal the 9-0 win for Wesleyan.
The Cardinals will now enjoy a month off before returning to action with a busy home weekend slate as Wesleyan hosts a Round Robin on January 13-14 with matches against Haverford, Mount Holyoke, and Denison.
